Let's talk about Aaliyah's legacy. It's been nearly 20 years since our beloved Baby Girl transcended into the heavens. Do you feel Aaliyah's legacy has been honoured in the best way possible? If not, why? And what do you feel needs to be done? Comment below and share your thoughts!
Hard to imagine it will be 20 yrs her legacy will continue forever
I know right?! I can't believe it's been that long! ????Making me feel old now! ???? lol! How do you feel her legacy has been handled with her family and estate currently?
I hope they do a good job at keeping her legacy alive just like the fans do
I feel like a lot more could be done. The merch is nice and everything, but I think her music should definitely be the main priority of being available on all streaming platforms, otherwise that's a whole young generation who will miss out on Aaliyah's legendary craft.
I hope they will do more for the fans. Such as release calendars, photo books, rare image etc. I'm keeping Aaliyah's legacy alive by buying cds, magazines and other memorabilia that I can find online. I'm also working on a fansite for her.
I hope so too! ???? They used to do a lot of calendars back in the early to mid 2000's, wish they would do more, but with unreleased images. And likewise! I do the same thing too! I feel like now it's a lot harder to find, since her music isn't available on streaming platforms. And wow that's awesome! We wish you the best of luck with your fansite! ????????????
Thank you. :) Some stuff I come across it's hard to tell if it's official or not.
I know exactly what you mean! I find that especially with realistic photo edits. Some I can tell are fakes, other old edits from years ago however look so good, that they can pass for being the real thing. We have some amazing talented people in this fanbase! ????
It's hard to believe it's been 2 decades since her passing. Right now I can say that I'm beyond happy her music is available again the way it should be a long time ago. I'm not commenting the way her music has been released though because that's a completley different story to me. I'm happy and fullfilled as it's out and we fans are able to buy her albums again. That's just wonderful feeling! As it comes to The Estate I appreciate MAC collection, Xyrena Perfumes, clothes I really do, but first & foremost Aaliyah is MUSIC and this is what we miss the most. Our great artist and the angelic voice. It has to be cherished. This is something she decided to share with the world and the long years when it was out was such a waste for her legacy. I feel relieved that it's over now.
I couldn't of worded it better myself sis! It's truly such a special moment in the Aaliyah fandom to be able to witness and experience something which felt like taking a trip down memory lane back in 2001. It was so emotional and overwhelming. Regardless of how it came out, I feel like we can finally breath a sigh of relief after all the years of hardwork and dedication put towards her legacy. It was needed and it's what the fans wanted. I'm kinda sad the rollouts are all over now, but we have the 'Unstoppable' album to look forward to in terms of new music, so that will be interesting to see! ????
Yes! I'm very excited about that and I hope that this time it will be released for real. After the annoucement that her music will be back I was kind of reserved remembering situations from the past years when they promised something about it and it never happen. Let's be honest we've heard so many times about the idea of posthumous album. Like Drake had plans around 2012-2014 and spoke out loud about it.
It was until I saw those great billboards in NYC when I realised that this time it all happens for real! I don't approve B. Hankerson's acts but I'm grateful for music to be out. It happened and no one will take it away from us now ♥
???? Felt the same way about it at first. I think as fans we've always been left disappointed constantly, so when the roll out came out it was like ok now! ???????????? Still amazing to this day how we are finally able to stream Aaliyah's music! No more importing your CD's onto ITunes digitally! ????????????
Yes I feel joyful that her music is finally coming out , us fans are being waiting for so long for this to happen & now it is actually happening. 20 years is a lot of time so it really is time to start putting & releasing Aaliyah's music out to these music platforms. She definitely needs to be recognized for a creativity so that more people can discover her for who she is as an artist.
And guys, what do you think about recently released "Poison" feat. The Weeknd?
Oh lord...where to start lol Honestly the song itself I found to be very beautiful, however the production ruined it for me. Normally when I hear new vocals from Baby Girl I get goosebumps, and with this one it took me a few good plays until I realised nah...something is missing. I listened through my headphones, in my car and through my phone and it still wasn't sounding right. I also felt it was very rushed, like they didn't take their time to perfect the demo vocals (which granted I know will sound rough anwyays since the files will be so old) but I've come across other demos from other artists and bands who've done a way better job.
I know recently they updated the track with a slightly better version on Apple Music and Spotify. It's a shame it was released in the poor standard that it was. With all the great promo and roll outs, that doesn't mean anything unless the music is on point in my opinion. It makes me anxious to see what they will do with the album as a whole, since I'm guessing it's going to be a duets type of album.
So agree with you! To me it was also the first time I did not enjoy Babygirl's vocals they way I should and always was!! They messed it up and something is missing here. The production could be much better and whole song seems to me rushed and not "Aaliyah level". I'm worried about the whole posthumous album and I wish it was Aaliyah only on most of the songs and not like we have her only on the chorus or in small parts! She's the star here!!
Exactly! Aaliyah was such a perfectionist and would of never wanted it released the way that it was. I noticed even The Weeknd didn't promote it much, which I'm assuming even he wasn't happy with. I wish Drake had the chance to do the album he was planning with Noah 40 Shebib, because he would of done a much better job. It's a shame so many were bashing him for it, when he has genuine love and has even showcased how Aaliyah is a huge influence on his music. *sigh* Hopefully he's on this new album ???? Only time will tell...
